Global Village Work Trip Planned to Mexico

For many years, we have imagined taking a work camp to Mexico to help build Habitat homes and to learn more about the global mission of Habitat to eliminate poverty housing. We are finally planning that trip!
We officially invite any of our volunteers or donors who are interested to participate in Santa Fe Habitat’s Global Village Trip to Chacala Bay in Nayarid, Mexico, outside Puerto Vallarta.

This is the destination that Habitat for Humanity International chose for us to go where our help is needed. The cost of the trip is not confirmed but is estimated at about $1300 including airfare, ground transportation, food, lodging, travel insurance and trip cancellation insurance. Some of the cost of the trip is a tax deductible gift to Habitat International and includes a $100 donation to the Habitat Mexico. The dates will be April 10-18. We can take a maximum of 14 people ages 18 and up. We fly on Saturday and return on Sunday. We will work to build houses full days Monday to Friday which leaves us a couple of days for R and R at either end. It is a rigorous schedule with sometimes primitive conditions. You must commit to the whole schedule. Click here to view a tentative itinerary.

Global Village groups have worked all over the world and the most common response is that the experience was life changing. Maggie Monroe-Cassel will be the group leader. It is her hope to introduce our volunteers and donors to the global mission of Habitat to eliminate poverty housing in the world. It is also an opportunity to see some of the conditions which drive so many Mexicans across the border for better lives.

If you are interested, please apply by contacting [ Maggie ] as soon as possible. We would like to have the trip full by the end of February. Each applicant will be interviewed as part of developing the team. Slots will be first granted to Santa Fe Habitat volunteers and donors and then, if available, open to other Santa Fe residents who want to support Habitat.
