Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity was founded in 1987 by a group of committed volunteers, led by a local Minister, The Rev. Shirley Greene. Shirley had a vision of eliminating poverty housing for Santa Fe County residents making 30% to 50% of median income. To accomplish this vision, the group affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International, a grassroots non-profit housing ministry founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller.
The years since our organization's founding are filled with results confirming that the organization works in building houses, families, communities and partnerships.
- Santa Fe Habitat for Humanity has provided simple, decent housing for over 114 residents of Santa Fe County. We have rehabbed or built from scratch 46 houses and condos. The recently selected 7 Partner Families consisting of 24 people of which 15 are children.
- Partner Families have seen their lives transformed, becoming stronger members of society and making a difference in their communities.
- Ever-growing numbers of organizations, churches and businesses have stepped forward to be sponsors, adopt families or become volunteers to assist us in the work of Habit.
- Habitat for Humanity International has provided simple, decent housing for over 175,000 families in 3000 communities around the globe.
